Welcome to this week’s Developer Diary! Today we sat down with Brian, one of the game designers of Kingdoms of Camelot to talk about all things Camelot. Brian gave us an update on domain merger and responds to players’ Throne Room questions. Get the scoop below!
Please post your feedback and questions in the Developer Diary Discussion Thread.
Developer Diary
Steph: Hi Brian! Let’s start off with a biggy. Any updates on domain merges?
Brian: Yes! We have been working on Domain merges for quite some time and currently the plan is that emails for the first batch of merges will be going out in March. Players should expect to also see an in game message if there World has been chosen for a Doman Merge. The early batches will be small while we refine the process.
Specific information regarding the time frame and details about the merge itself will be contained in this message. We have not announced what these details are yet because we’re still working them out. The best thing a player can do right now is to stay active on domains that they would like merged.
Steph: Awesome! Players will be excited that Domain Merges are coming. I have been reading a lot of feedback on Throne Room over the past 2 weeks. Can you provide players with some more information on how buffs work? How do they stack with other bonuses (knights, items, etc.).
Brian: Unless a buff is listed as Unique (which currently none are listed as Unique) then they will stack with Research, Items, Knights, Guardians, etc.
Steph: Some players seem confused about Throne Room. Are there any plans to add Tool Tips to the feature?
Brian: We will take a look at places where tooltips make sense and add them to the Throne Room. We also want to add a tutorial that can be opened that would be as informative as the guide listed on the Forums.
Steph: RANGE BUFFS How common are they, and how will they affect the game?
Brian: The Range Buff and Debuff are among the rarer effects that a Throne Room item can get. We understand the devastating effects Range can have on combat and took that into consideration. We continue to monitor all effects (not just Range) and if they become a problem we can edit the drop rates for them.
Steph: Thanks Brian!
Brian also took some time to answer player questions from the Throne Room Discussion Thread. Check out his answers below.
Player Questions: Throne Room
How will the bonus for finding items work? the bonus is added to the drop rate (eg 5% + 0.5%) or is it to multiply (5% x 1.05)
It is added to the Drop Rate.
Will the Resource Bonus also raise the Cap of the maximum Resource per City?
The Resource Bonuses do not raise the Cap of the maximum Resource per City.
Do the buffs stack? Say i have an Attack buff of 5% and an Horsed Attack buff of 5%, and i attack with cav, is the total buff 10%?
Yes. There is an instance where an effect can be Unique, but currently there are no Unique effects in the game. This would only be the case if an effect was extremely powerful and it would be marked as a Unique effect on the Throne Room item.
Are these useless simple +0 throne room items going to clog up my throne room inventory "rows" ? IE When i reach my limit and finally do get lucky enough to hit a wild/df/player and get a rare drop I won't be able to receive it because all of the slots will be full of useless items?
With the next large Throne Room release, players will be able to Upgrade and Enhance their Throne Room items which means that some Simple +0 items may be worth saving if the effects on them are useful. This will not make every Simple +0 item useful though, and we understand that.
Currently when a player’s Throne reaches the 60 item limit, they will no longer receive Throne Room item drops. In this case, yes, a player could miss out on getting better items. Our plan is to create an easier way for players to mass Salvage item, because Salvaging hundreds of items can get very tedious very quickly.
Throne room items are TOO HARD TOO READ!
Our goal is to make all colored text on Throne Room Items as readable as possible. Which qualities are specifically hard to read?
We have heard that the grayed out, inactive, effects are too hard to read and we will be changing them to a darker gray. We wanted to make it visually clear that these effects were inactive and in doing so may have made the effects too difficult to read. This is definitely something we want to change in our next Throne Room update considering that players should care about an item’s inactive effects when they can increase the Quality to unlock them.
It has been stated that later we will be able to upgrade the throne room items. Does this mean 1) That a +0 item can be made into a +1, +2, etc. and/or 2) That a simple item can be made into a common item, common item be made into a uncommon item, etc.?
1) Yes.
2) Yes.
The next large update for Throne Room will introduce Upgrading and Enhancing. Upgrading an item will increase +0 to +1, +2, +3, etc up to +10. A +1 item will increase the power of all five effects on an item, including inactive effects. Enhancing an item will increase its Quality, unlocking more of the effects on the item.
Players who wish to Upgrade or Enhance an item will need Aetherstones to use each system. Similar to crafting, an Upgrade or Enhance attempt is not a guaranteed success and will increase in difficulty as an item gets upgraded/enhanced. If an Upgrade attempt is not successful, the item will break and will need to be repaired before it can be equipped, upgraded or enhanced again. Items can be repaired one at a time and the duration it takes to repair it is based on its Quality and Upgrade Level. An unsuccessful Enhance attempt also causes the item to break but will also reduce the item’s Quality by one.
