Hi everyone!
The Kingdoms of Camelot Developer Diary is back! From time to time I will be sitting down with someone from the KofC Team to discuss all things Camelot, and posting our discussion on Kabam.com and in the forums. This week I sat down with Brian, who is one of our team’s game designers, and he gave me the scoop on the Camelot's next big feature - The Throne Room. Let us know what you think, and don't hesitate to list any questions you have in the discussion thread. You might get your question answered in our next installment!
Enjoy!
Stephanie
Steph: Hey Brian! Thanks for helping out with this week’s Dev Diary. I want to talk about Camelot’s next big feature. What exactly is the Throne Room?
Brian: The Throne Room is a new feature that will allow players to collect and show off Throne Room Items while gaining bonuses to their troops, knights and even their entire Kingdom. Throne Room Items come in five types: Throne, Window, Tapestry, Relic, and Seneschal.
Here’s how it works: I attack a level 5 Dark Forest and am victorious. As a reward I am given the Simple Throne of Leadership. I then head to my Throne Room, open my Throne Room inventory and can equip this new item into my Throne equip slot. You can almost think of it like a player’s equipment in an MMORPG.
Steph: Why did we decide to create the Throne Room for KofC?
Brian: The Throne Room feature is another feature that aims to make combat meaningful and rewarding in Kingdoms of Camelot. With the release of Glory, we gave players a new way to track their PVP progress and the Throne Room will allow players to acquire items and show them off. Where Glory was aimed at just Player vs. Player attacks, the Throne Room expands to rewarding all forms of combat.
To some this feature may sound similar to the Court, but after designing the feature, we decided that it would be better if it was something completely new. The Court will still exist, but players will have an all new Throne Room where they can show off their Throne Room Items and gain incredible bonuses.
Steph: Cool! How can players get Throne room items?
Brian: Players will be able to acquire Throne Room items as rewards for attacking Wilds, Barbarian Camps, Dark Forests and other players. The higher the point you’re attacking, the more likely you are to get a Throne Room Item.
Steph: So how does the Throne Room benefit players?
Brain:Once equipped, Throne Room items will provide a player with various bonuses. These bonuses can range from Attack/Defense bonuses to all troops, an increase in the Aetherstone cap, or even a debuff that applies to an enemy’s army. There are over 300 different bonuses ranging in potency and effect so each player will be able to customize their Throne Room the way they want.
To accommodate the numerous item combinations that players will ultimately create, the Throne Room will allow a player to save an item build so that swapping items is quick and easy. A player can have an item set-up they use for attacking Dark Forests but, upon notice of incoming attacks, can switch to an item build that significantly increases their defense. The combinations are nearly endless and we can’t wait to see what builds players create.
Steph: Thanks for walking us through the Throne Room, sounds pretty sweet! While I have you, can you share anything else the team is working on : )
Brian: Throne Room is just the first of many exciting updates to Camelot we have planned for 2012. We also have some cool back-end improvements, bug fixes, and yes, Domain mergers in the pipeline. We'll have more updates on these features in February.
Steph: Awesome. Thanks Brian!
