I am at present almost to 800 failed tries to raise a Wondrous +4 card to Wondrous +5. This effort has consumed a lot of my time. It is beyond annoying, past frustrating, and even rises above irritating to a certain degree.
So I am inspired to suggest that a ceiling be put on failed attempts to upgrade a TR card, at the end of which the card will be automatically upgraded on the next try.
I suggest that the maximum number of failures be set at 100, multiplied by the level to which the card is being raised. An attempt to raise a +4 card to +5 would thus be maximally bedeviled by failure by about one week, which seems like punishment enough for anybody.
sought level . . . max failures on linear scale . . . max failures on quadratic scale
+1 . . . 100 . . . 20
+2 . . . 200 . . . 80
+3 . . . 300 . . . 180
+4 . . . 400 . . . 320
+5 . . . 500 . . . 500
+6 . . . 600 . . . 720
+7 . . . 700 . . . 980
+8 . . . 800 . . . 1280
+9 . . . 900 . . . 1620
+10 . . 1000. . . 2000
This way, the probability for success can reduce the time for success below the ceiling, while the ceiling eliminates the worry that failure will be extended for a ridiculous number of upgrade tries, as well as for a ridiculous amount of player time.
The way KoC is being run now, one wonders whether it's an experiment in finding out how much frustration people can be made to put up with, and what can be done or said to raise people's level of tolerance for apparent futility.
