Please help me to understand this battle report, did the WMC set the range?

Yes, they did. An easy way to check (if you are in the battle, of course) is to look at troop stats.

The HC did great against the archers because of the big defense buff the attacker has. He probably made his defense higher than the archers attack (i didn't do the math).

Defense higher then both the arch and the pike attack stats. HC losses were primarily due to the Xbows which would have been the last thing killed. The defender not having an active ore guardian and a low level knight also contributed to these results as both contributed to lower attack stats for the defending arch and pike. An active ore guardian, better knight, a little attack buff or defense debuff by the defender could have given very different results. This amount of defense would not have been enough to do this if the defender had a 255 knight in the city.

Before you start about the ore guardian I am assuming that since the defender had a low level knight that he also does not have a full guardian set. If you do not have the full guardian set the ore guardian will contribute to the attack stat when it is active and you are defending. And yes I know what the guardian says.
Just because someone is an "Expert Member" in the forum doesn't mean they know what they are talking about....It just means they're talking.
