Profane, deviant, and generally inappropriate players in chat

Seriously Kabam, when is the filth in Global Chat going to be better policed and moderated? There are a very notable few immature morons in my "world" that push the envelope WAY too far in GC. People have been reported over, and over, and over... Only to reappear the next day and continue where they left off before they were temp-banned.

First there are the twits that abuse the (currently nearly useless) text filters using accented characters and such, which is so simple for Kabam to squash it's ridiculous... Can you not go to your filter "dictionary" and add variations of blocked words with accented vowels replacing the standard vowels? Ü instead of U? Add versions with $ instead of S?

There is also some seriously inappropriate and/or illegal stuff going on in there. A couple of the "anonymous tough guys" were in there a few days ago freely talking about raping another player, and threatening the children of another player in disturbing ways.

"it's just the Internet, nobody believes what people say on the Internet blah blah" they say. That's fine and dandy... But doesn't mean it isnt illegal to threaten people and their CHILDREN online! Apparently they were reported to Kabam who slapped their wrist with a 12 or 24 hour chat ban.... Seriously? A day with no chat for that type of behavior?

And to make it worse, the idiot's username is a very vulgar slang for genitalia. Which goes unacted upon by Kabam. And to make it even worse, this player and at least one other genital-obsessed player have won various Kabam contests, and Kabam cluelessly or carelessly sends out a GLOBAL email with these offensive names on them, congratulating them for winning the contest! I read it and was dumbfounded.

So then the whole "free speech" argument comes into play and usually gets twisted. Sure, you can say whatever you like... as long as it doesn't infringe upon anyone else's rights. But you know what? Kabam is a private entity running a private service and CAN tell you to shut your filthy trap or else get banned.

"Well just ignore them then. If you don't like it, don't read it!" Ok, that's great so I only have to see an inappropriate comment from each idiot once. Problem solved for me. Not for everyone else. Case in point, a few days back there was a young player who said, "please stop using bad words"... Much to the joy of the filth spamming morons. They fired back a salvo of spew at this poor kid, and someone quickly told him/her how to "ignore". But not until they'd been exposed to that crap.

I also wonder what Apple would think if presented with this disregard for content. I think age restrictions on the app would be the least of it.

So the bottom line comes down to you, Kabam. The Internet will always have no-life losers who find it hilarious to offend people while they hide behind their anonymity. So who do you value Kabam: A minority of filthy offensive users, or the masses of decent (or at least decent-acting) players?

What are the consequences of frequent chat abuse, and more importantly, what are the consequences of repeated, demonstrated disregard for Kabam's chat policies? How many slaps on the wrist before a player (and IP address) is banned from chat altogether? Do you really care about the environment you provide for your players, or are you too concerned with the gems these halfwits buy? How many players are turned off to Kabam games because of encounters with them? How many kids are subject to inappropriate filth because of your failure to police your corner of the internet?

As much as I value free speech, this appears to be a business valuation issue for Kabam. I cannot find anything from which to disagree with this author. Much the same way that Kabam is trying to improve the "computer code" they should also be trying to improve the experience for the users. Most in chat are respectful. Those who are not get called out pretty regularly. If the players are calling these people out, why shouldn't Kabam see the writing on the wall. This is a great game, but the standards of conduct - and standards for filtering - need to be higher.

Wholeheartedly agree with everything you say. This is the primary reason I almost never talk in Global. I try my utmost to try and not read what is being said there. Kabam need to do several things.

    1) Allow an option to disable Global chat.
    2) The game needs to be age restricted especially if Kabam are not going to enforce a code of conduct.
    3) Start banning these people instead of either doing nothing or giving them 24hr bans from chat. I know they will just create a new account but at least if the world is full they wont be able to hassle the people there anymore.

Unfortunately I don't expect any of this to happen. I've played many of these styles of games and it is a common problem in any corporate run game.

    Totally Agree

Unacceptable to take our money and post a product that is not monitored. I have reported many times vulgar content and never see any action taken on the user. Kabam get you heads read.

In response on how us as players can act I had a racist jewish death joke posted in global from a member in a top alliance and I and others would not stop till he was booted from his alliance and was made to apologise online. The answer is not just in getting Kabam to police this. Players and people in life need to step up and say NO NOT ON.

Thanks you everybody for your feedback,
I'll forward them to the game team.

we want the chat to be a pleasant place for everybody to have fun. We are working on improving features in chat that will allow players to block most effectively abuse and spam. For now please take advantage of the mute/ignore button by clicking on the player that you want to block and performing this action will mute him for 24h.

Players Support monitor abuse reports but can't disclose results of the investigations.

    Thanks again

I think it's fair to say we arent concerned with players being able to effectively block abuse themselves. We can push ignore already, and that's as effective as player-level blocking can be. We aren't concerned with knowing the results of your investigations.

I'm sick of seeing the same twisted minds on KoC day after day after day pulling the same stunts and forcing their garbage on everyone. What is Kabam doing with these constant reports they're receiving? How can a bad player keep blatantly breaking the rules - to the harm of other players - and Kabam keep taking tiny half-measures against them?

The question is: what is Kabam's policy for constant repeat offenders? Do they just receive 12 hour bans forever? Is there a "three strikes" type policy for permanent ban? This has nothing to do with new systems or fancy blocking features, this has to do with simply moderating and monitoring the chats and/or the reports and taking strict decisive action beyond a short ban that they laugh at.

The other question that begs to be answered: why doesn't Kabam review player names and alliance names? When there are chat abuse reports for several players whose names are slang for genitals, you'd think something would be done to force a change. When someone uses the "F" word in their alliance name, does Kabam even notice? There is at least one that's had it for over a week in my world. Also, do you realize you sent a message to everyone in my "realm" announcing the winner of a contest was someone whose name was vulgar slang for oral sex? Unbelievably irresponsible.

I absolutely agree with the op. Let me give my personal experience which took place Tues June 19. My alliance decided to goto war with a top alliance, and what ensued was a player from the other alliance began spamming me with no less than 30 messages of pure vulgarity and personal insults. The player began hitting my city with only one troop at a time which took up no less than 3 pages of reports, with each attack the player would send a message saying very vulgar things and insults.
Now I am an adult and certainly no stranger to this sort of language, and whats more no that easy to offend. ESPECIALLY over a game. However that night I allowed my 10 year old son to play along. That did offend me. Now I reported this player for abuse, but their cities are still active. I absolutely refuse to give any more monetary support to a corporation that will not stand on principle and expel players like this person. There is no room for doubt as to the behavior of this player for its all a matter of record in the messages. So its NOT a simple case of my word against theirs. The player clearly violated the terms of services and quite possibly some laws.
Why Kabam does not expel this player is beyond my understanding. The only reason I can think of is, this player more than likely spends a lot more money than I have?
Either way, as a former Evony player, it was obvious to me from the very start Kabam has copied Evony, I just wish Kabam would also copy Evony's strict enforcement of the rules.

You're either Wrath or Jahcks, or some other Defiant, but you're not fooling anyone. If you want to complain about people hiding behind Anon why are you doing it yourself?

It is not as one sided as you say it, the things you say to me and my companion Daydreamers are as offensive as anything. For example:
"I've had a hard day at work! My kids are being naughty and roughhousing! My corns ache!"
Do you really think anyone wants to be subjected to that filth?! No one wants to hear about irl stuff like kids and gross corns!

Also, a Chode is not genitalia, it is the connective tissue In between the balls and anus. Look in a actual dictionary like Webster or Oxford instead of UrbanDictionary, and you might actually learn something.

    Sincerely,
    ChodeGobbler

Totally agree with the tread starter. And what about the names of some of these alliances. Fuc*k Pus*y??. Totally inappropriate in a game where kids play. There are many version of these names. Please clean that up.
