Please tell us what that is!

got to say I agree with this now, my gargoyle was attacked by an overwhelming force (fair enough) and got his butt kicked (ok, understandable), but he failed to bite the head off even a single attacking bat.

So I guess the problem is not so much with the gargoyle itself, but with the combat system overall. I would assume you would take some losses (unless you take an overwhelming force of ranged attackers, of course), but it turns out to be much more stacked in favour of the bigger force. I'd like to see the gargoyle do *something* against an attacker, so you can't just play "stomp the mega army around" without taking a little bit of a loss.

You should read the "Battle Mechanics" thread. Attackers get the first move / hit in every battle. If they kill the gargoyle in one hit, how can the gargoyle hit back if he is dead? Sounds like nothing is broken there.

I did read the battle tactics thread, if you're attacked with no ranged troops, the gargoyle should get a hit in first - as the bats head towards him, his ranged attack should take a few of them out before the rest overwhelm him.
Still, in what combat system does the attacker get the advantage, that's bonkers - gargoyle with ranged attack does 0 damage, even behind the walls. Its not quite right, so the gargoyle turns out to be useless against everything except a totally weak force.

So what is it's TRUE job? defending my home is not it cause 1000 of anything beats it. fighting it does nothing. looks good hovering above it's perch though.

Defending city. Regardless of beign attacked by superior troops, Gargoyle will keep killing them one by one depending on how many turns your meatshield can last.

Sending it with other troops on the attack, it does not count against your 100k troop max, and provides an extra target and good range damage.
Like a plague, Pestilence shall drown the lands with blood.
